The position assumes primary responsibility for all aspects of analysis and lab operations conducted at St. Louis spec gas facility and acts as a technical resource for any Specialty Gas Operations. Manage personnel and resources in such a manner as to support the overall goals and objectives of the plant and ensure strict compliance with both local and national policies. Coordinate with operations and Customer Service to meet customer needs. Achieve organizational safety goals. Ensure that the highest possible standards of analysis and professionalism are maintained. SCOPE AND IMPACT: Operate St. Louis MO spec gas facility safely at all times, meet all customer needs, and efficiently manage personnel and resources. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Ensure compliance and improvement to ISO programs. Enforce the quality and safety policies within the laboratory scope Directly supervise laboratory employees to ensure compliance with ISO programs and in accordance with applicable federal, state and local employment laws Manage day-to-day operation of laboratory analyses, safety, and compliance with Federal, state, and local regulations and codes (FDA, GMP, DOT, OSHA, etc.) Lead trainer for scheduling all laboratory operations and/or alternate for scheduling as needed Responsible for maintenance of all analytical equipment within laboratory, ensuring all equipment is up-to date with external and internal calibrations. Handles customer complaints through Intelex system, providing thorough root cause analysis of complaint, short-term and long-term corrective actions. Facilitate a resolution when conflicting issues arise involving laboratory personnel Approve departures from documented procedures and minimize departures from the quality system Implement those aspects of the quality system relating to all analytical processes Ensure personnel performing analytical testing are compliant in appropriate methods and procedures Maintain the Laboratory Quality Manuals, Specialty Gas Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Administration Manual and Specialty Gas Quality Manual, and issue revisions as needed to the Quality Assurance Director Perform certified and primary standard analyses such that products meet both PPM designated deadlines and customer deadlines Provide customers with the highest level of service by ensuring that all special product requests are met Provide technical support to production lab by validating standards and performing intermediate analyses as needed Support plant management through the development and maintenance of ISO programs. Maintain positive and productive work environment through active participation in laboratory meetings and assigned team activities Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Proficiency with entering and extracting data into and from a computer. Proven ability to work effectively under deadlines and with little supervision and to complete a high volume of paperwork accurately and on time. Instrumental experience to include: GC, FTIR, etc. Supervisory experience in spec gas lab environment preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Has the ability to analyze, read, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Is able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from region management, associates, or regulatory agencies. Is able to communicate in standard business style and grammar. Has the ability to effectively present information to region management and associates. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Understands mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inferences. Has the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Computer literate and competent in use of Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, etc. SAP experience preferred. REASONING ABILITY: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
